I am glad that you are with us on our journey! Bumbershoot was great! Thanks to Damion, Elvia & the BLVD crew for putting us up amidst such great art! Plan B is already back in Paris, Naoto won second prize in the Tokyo Laptop Battle, and for those of us stuck where we normally rest, there's this little slept-on gem from our friends in New York City...
Check E.R. Don, Specs Wizard, Linda & Ron's Dad, Radio Zapan & DJs Introcut, Hideki, Kamui & Bumble B crafting the vibe every single day at Bumbershoot 2007. Part of the wicked Claimin' Spaces art exhibit sponsored by BLVD Gallery.

Quick note about some new Laptop Battle freshness:
Our man Mochipet down in the Bay Area is preparing a battle like no other on Nov. 10th. Check out his nice use of the Fourthcity template:
And, our homie Matt is doing it up super proper in Tokyo this year too (Sept. 12th if you're on the Eastside). Look for Naotoxin to bring the weeded funk to the place, and Deceptikon will be passing judgement..
The Butter compilation is out now! Go cop it right away. It's limited to only 300 physical copies...
See you later, FIGA

Whew, just got back to the Fourthcity Server Farm after a sweaty game of tennis across the street..
OKAY, you need to know a few things so you don't get laughed at:
Broken Disco #2 was even more rowdy than the first one. Passions & Knifehandchop got the hipsters ass lweaty workin' it like it was their first time, and SunTzu sound, Nominal I, Nordic Soul & ndCv held it down like the local celebrity mainstay workhorses that they are. Fourthcity passes the blunt to all y'all, and the rest of you can inhale what's left of the roach. Next week we got Smash TV + Nortec Collective/Panoptica, with support by fearless Fourthcity soldiers Kamui-kun & senior Introcut.
Boopanschwing in full fucking effect tomorrow (5/15)!! Last night I heard DJ Riz discussing the meaning of life while the abstract Zapan cut "Rice Paddy Shortcuts" played in the background, and it was like "Whoa." See the advert below.
BLACK&WHITE&neon PARTY!!!!!! Don't even front, you know this is going to be ill. Come through on June 2nd to the warehouse behind Atlas Clothing & give Mit' the fucking spankings he deserves. Brought to you by The Almighty Durrbuck's STRIKE HARD productions. & advertised by the best poster that "Zapan Hugs Haters" ever designed:
AND, in case you didn't know, Fourthcity birthed the fucking laptop battles & reared it into a beautiful little angel, and Fourthcity's blood still courses through its veins. If you don't know you better ask somebody. And that's all we have to say about that.
As always, much love to you & yours from the Fourthcity Art Crew!

Here is our favorite review of the 2007 New Years Eve extravaganza at the LOFI:
I went to the New Years Eve event at Lo_Fi in Seattle. The following is a recounting of the events that occurred.I arrived around 11 PM just as an electro band was finishing. Cool, they had TR-808, TB-303 and other classic synth gear. Next were Jacob London, definitely the highlight of the event. Jacob London, which is actually a 2-part band rather than a person, used a laptop (possibly running Live?) but also performed live bass and vocals. It was very cool!
The event went until 4 AM, but I was kicked out shortly after 2 AM. The following is my Better Business Bureau report of the situation and sequence of events:
I attended a 2-room event for New Years Eve. At 2 AM, one room was closing so the DJ turned on ear-piercing feedback. He began to give the finger to the audience. I put my fingers in my ears. He then splashed a full glass of beer in my face. (Apparently he was trying to hit other audience members who had given him the finger back). Since this was completely unprovoked, I became angry and demanded to see the manager. There were multiple employees of Lo_Fi who told me no, I could not talk to the manager. Then they changed their story - 2 guys said that they were the manager, within 10 seconds of each other. I told them that he splashed beer in my face but they said it was water. They were all in agreement, covering each others back about this. (There were at least 2 workers of Lo_Fi plus friends of the DJ involved in the dispute now). The argument escalated and the DJ attacked me. He hit me in the nose (bruising the bridge of my nose) and also in the shoulder. He tackled me to the ground and tore my sweatshirt. As soon as he attacked me, I began shouting "non violence" over and over and putting my hands above my head. The security pulled him off of me. My girlfriend, who was next to me, was also punched in the face (accidentally, I think). I did not throw a single punch, nor did I do anything to directly provoke the attack. (I was arguing with security, not even talking directly to the DJ when I was attacked). I said I wanted to call 911 but an employee of Lo_Fi said that the DJ was crowd surfing and that I happened to be in the way. In other words, they were covering up for him and would lie to the police, so there was no point in me dialing 911. Since its my word against theirs, and it was not technically an emergency, I decided not to call 911.The security kicked me out for starting a fight but let the DJ stay inside. A minute later, when I was outside, a friend of the DJ and obvious friend of Lo_Fi employees came out and tried to start a fight, telling me I should leave immediately or else. Security came and dragged him back inside. A few minutes later, when my partner and I were about to leave, the same person drove up in a car and told me to come close to the window. We walked up to the car and he spit in me and my girlfriends faces. I would like a full refund for me and my partners tickets, which cost $20 each. So, the total settlement I am seeking is $40, which I think is quite reasonable considering that I was attacked by a DJ and his friend, yet security allowed both the DJ and his friend to stay inside and kicked me out instead. Numerous witnesses to the event consoled me nd agreed with my take on the events, one person saying Lo_Fi takes care of their own, in other words, they lie and cover up their own employees wrongdoings. Regardless of whether an agreement is reached, I believe Lo_Fi should be investigated for bad (possibly illegal) business practices. Feel free to forward this message to law enforcement officials if appropriate

Homies, it has been awhile since we made an update to the news section. The Fourthcity website is old and shabby; we need to update it for real! Anyway, we have been busy in the lab recently like we always do. Tuesdays at LoFi with Hidden Habitats/Introcut/Madman/etc. is still going strong, Laptop Battles have been taking off, Brushed is still keeping our technology group & Kinoko busy...
In the month of December we have got Foscil & Introcut opening for Prefuse 73, the national laptop battle championships, and of course NEW YEARS EVE:

Homies,
Our Fourthcity Mini-Festival weekend was wonderful. Thanks to everybody who attended one of the many events: Art Crew Showcase 2006 at Club De Silencio on Friday (ft. Much love from the Fourthcity Art Crew!!! Yours truly will be headed back to Japan for a minute later this month, but rest assured we've got some new goodness in the works for everybody involved. In the meantime, go listen to lots of good underground music at the newest F.v.t.W. web presence: Brushed Golden!!

hells yes, lots & lots of news for you. sorry for not getting it out sooner!
(1) Vanessa, aka Nova 2012, & Bumblebee got some shit stolen out of their car when we went up to Vancouver for Destroy, an elegant night of Art, Music & Destruction planned by FCT's international division. Anyway, they're troopers cuz they didn't let it get em down. They danced & had fun anyway, but B lost a very rare Vestax mixer & V lost her fucking laptop. So we're throwing a benefit show for them at LOFI on Saturday Oct 8th. We're not gonna get all mopey if you don't come, but you really should anyway. Fuck the theives!
(2) Decibel Festival was the sh~ish. Deceptikon & his Miami crew did it up right on opening night (speaking of which, the merck label is gonna be calling it quits - sadly - at the end of '05), Detroit Underground, Apparat & J Abstract kicked asses on Fri, on Saturday Vincent Parker, Kinoko & Introcut showed up Akufen at Neumo's, & more but i can't remember.
(3) Foscil's back from their West Coast Tour w/ the mighty Specs One, & they're gonna be taking some time to chill pretty soon, so if you're a fan & you hear about a show, you better come check it cuz you may not get another chance for awhile. Respect to Mochipet & Matt McKee in SF, Dunes & Holocene crew in PDX, Lisa in Olympia, Chris in Missoula, all Defsow & Fourthcity crew, Swan Trudell + Moore fam, Specs fans & all others who made the tour what it was: A Hot Stinking Pile of Goodness.
(4) Truckasaurus is the greatest band you've never heard of. You gotta come through to either Oscillate (Baltic Room - TONIGHT!!), or to the Feelhuman loft (562 1st S) on Thursday. Don't sleep on the truck!!! Guaranteed to peel heads back!

Many
thanks to those who came out for the Foscil release party Saturday
night at LOFI. DJ Copy, E. R. Don, Absolute Madman, Introcut,
Hideki, Kamui, Bumblebee, Radio Mr. Afternoon sans the roaming
correspondent, & the mighty FOSCIL all held it down drunken-stupor
style. Ups to peeps who attended the Graylife / Goods / Fourthcity
show the night before that at the war room too. We got some
big plans for the future.... keep it fourthcity.

1.
Stop Biting got in the Stranger's "suggests" column
this week; peep it here
2.
Poster Midget's been blowin' up all crazy like. Cats from all
over the city be wantin Seattle's only extra-nice crew of poster-loving
midget ninja thugs to hang their posters, & we all about
it. Check the new HQ in the old Buoy/IQU studios if you pass

"if it's war they want, then it's fucking war they'll get!"
(not that we want it to come to that of course) Here's the press
release we sent out about it, in case you missed it ------ L
POSTER
GIANT vs POSTER MIDGET:::::::::::::
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
------
The business practices of Poster Giant, Seattle's largest postering
company,
who sleeve whole poles with their posters, purchase whole store
windows for
exclusive use, & tear down rivals' posters, are bad for
everyone in the
music business in so many ways. In the past week, I've seen
posters for
shows at venues who are regular customers of Poster Giant taken
out of store windows and thrown away by Poster Giant, posters
for shows not yet expired covered over by Poster Giant, and
posters put up by people who have given them shit about their
practices in the past mercilessly torn down for no reason.
-------
Enter the Fourthcity Art Crew's newest manifestation: POSTER
MIDGET. Poster Midget guarantees that they'll stick around until
Poster Giant is either
dead & gone or (best-case scenario) has changed their evil
ways.
------
Poster Midget is currently seeking business so they can focus
more of their
time helping people promote their events and improving one of
the best
postering scenes in the nation, as well as saving time &
$$$ for bands,
promoters & others who are vital to our local music scene.
------
Poster Midget is a postering company who specializes in ethical
yet
high-profile postering in the Seattle area. Postering is the
most artistic,
least expensive, and only diy method of advertising available
for
(law-abiding) members of the art & music community, and
Seattle's postering scene is among the most vital anywhere.
Any company who attempts to do business in this arena must respect
it. More information about Poster Midget can be found at http://www.postermidget.com/

Hideki's
going back to Japan for two months :(
-starting in about a week. We'll miss him a lot. Definitely
make it out to LOFI this week to bask
in the greatness & show him your love (not literally
you prevert)... and but moving right along, we're all (very)
sick of the cold, damp weather & the new, stubborn "common"
colds it's bringing this year. a psycho policewoman told us
on the bus the other day that it's a new strain of something-or-other
that fills the lungs with fungus, & can even eat through
flesh. hopefully we don't have anything like that... But so
anyhow, we have a feeling that it's all about to change, &
a super-sized portion of Barbados is about to head our way.

over
a month since the last proper update... first of the news-worthy
items is that cojilabs.tk
has undergone a revision & is now the definitive resource
for all things koji kuwahara. it's over for you. second, stop
biting is going as strong as always, and a recent fashion
show collaboration w/ lake city's RE:ME was reputedly off the
fuckin' hook. yep yep yep. and third, on friday December 17th,
the stars will align for three separate must-see events: FOSCIL
performs w/ IQU & others at NEUMO'S; HIDEKI, BUMBLEBEE &
KAMUI do it up at the GRAYLIFE christmas party at the CHAC;
& for those in the 8-1, DJN & ZAPAN will be rockin'
BULLET'S in TOKYO w/ the PROGRESSIVE FOrM crew. aw shit. check
the schedule page for deets. also,
the fourthcity compilation's been getting mad radio play recently
(our promo was kinda late), garnering high marks on a lot of
domestic college radio stations' RPM charts... and dctrzpn's
been in japan for a month now - hard at work on new cuts for
an upcoming split release w/ BOOKMOBILE (for woodson
lateral records) while making sure to excercise daily...

we're back; here's a little synapsis:
day1 [seattle>pdx]- drove to pdx. djn & zapan played
for a couple hours over ozone 3's house speakers. foscil,
madman, djn & zapan rocked a loft party downtown till
4am.
day2 [pdx>eugene]- drove around selling cds to stores
in portland. check the distro page
to see who's carrying. arrived in eugene late & kicked
it w/ deceptikon for a bit. he's got some new
vinyl out. check it if you haven't, cuz it's good.
day3 [eugene>sf]- drove all day & arrived in s.f.
late. we slept on the floor of the element lounge, a brand-new
spot in the tenderloin.
day4 [sf]- kicked it for awhile. picked up bumblebee from
the airport & met up w/ friends at the konstrukt
showcase & cd release party. comute impressed.
day5 [sf]- the mighty show. everybody did a great job. big
fourthcity thx to j.tonal from lowprolounge,
daniel the twittering machine, ben
sheppee, matt mckee, brandon mckee, club
mighty, natalie, leigha, davia, dizzystarhouse & everybody
who checked it. our favorite san francisco show to date.
day6 [sf>garberville]- hung around the city all day. in
the evening ryan was admonished by the police for rocking
his gameboy on a busy sidewalk and showed his self-less contempt
for the system by doing a painfully executed hand-stand/back-flip.
we love you ryan.
day7 [garberville>seattle]- watched children play near
a dangerous undertow in northern california & got awestruck
by the beauty of an undervalued subway employee in a random
oregon township. check

so the flavor of the week was: delicious. the last-ever fourthcity
weekly was dominated by optimistic anticipation but tinged a
bit w/ melancholy. the seattle weekly said this
about our last weekly, which makes it seem like we're going
away forever, but of course that's just not true... hideki,
bumblebee, kamui, madman, djn, zapan, plan b & foscil all
played fantastic sets. the bartenders weren't as adament about
bartime on our final night at the lounge, so we were able to
enjoy more than usual the gradual winding down of our last weekly.
& all this after freefest... where acute apotheosis
was attained by nearly 85% of all fourthcityists. something
in the water? respect to g_unit!!!

ooh baybe (smash the guiness stout!)... "we must expand,
get more pupils, so that the knowledge will spread..."
don't front - it's not yr style! the second-to-last fctWkly
went down smooth & delicious: invisible numbers got it started
w/ beautiful melodic soundscapes & minimal electroish beats.
introcut, paulish & dj markII kept the fourthcity turntables
on a 100% butter-fat diet. the galactic ionization unit dropped
a bass-heavy funk w/ appropriately XXX interludes. balsa redefined
the art of electro-pimpin', & kinoko rocked some smile-a-delic
laptop nastiness... it was a good night. celebrity patrol spotted
both superstar ~dj naha~ & arts curator extraordinaire ~shepherd~
tearin' holes in the weekly dance floor. this is the cut yo,
this is
the cut... "ore to untenshu to nakama futari, kurakute
kowai tokoro de kaminari, kosoku doro de - kosoku de - neon
to ame ga mazate, nijigen no pari, sumimasen ore gaijin, yurushitekure,
kono seishinbyo no sei de totemo burei, nama biru to osake,
nde my dubois, kuruma kemuri darake itsumo *how we play!*"
oh & hey, our cds are available in vancouver too! check
the distro page if you wanna cop one,
& tell us if we missed a spot! peace out suckas! ((fct_android--"fill
the void!"))

lots of new stuff: we confirmed some big new dates, including
a jaunt down to san francisco to promote the compilation &
two shows w/ captain ahab in august [check the show
schedule for dates, & here's the front
& the
other front of the flyers]. fourthcity welcomes plan b (!!!)
& choncey langford (!!!) to the crew w/ new sitelets at
fourthcity[dot]net; check 'em here
& here, respectively...
mad new exclusives in the download section too, including as-yet
unreleased tracks by djn, kris moon, zapan & the ubiquitous
dr. poopey, as well as a 1+ hour long mix by hideki, kamui &
bumblebee, & a two-year-old dub track by foscil (formerly
scape - remember it!) from one of their earlier releases. if
you like our music, go trade
some of yr money for our new compilation - it's our only first
(keep reading! you can do it!) commercially available release,
& we expect you'll be able to sell it on ebay for triple
the current price in only a few short years.... also, thanks
to the feebs who put us on this weekend: zapan, foscil &
variform played w/ obelus & dj br8 @ static factory's lower
level on friday; on saturday night, kris moon & zapan broke
the bassbins at ToST lounge in fremont, & all the normal
insanities were had at the nominal I greenlake party, including
a surprise dj set by our long-lost friend dj jemaha. whew! also,
mad respect to kid hops, who mixed a nearly 2-hour-long dj set
@ the weekly last night & impressed everybody present w/
his exceptional taste & superior sensibilities. only two
more weeks of the weekly before it's gone forever, an ephemeral
memory shared by several hundred of seattle's nicest & best-looking
audiophiles...
